Cloud Computing is a style of computing in which dynamically scalable where virtualized resources (processors, memory, and storage) are pooled to deliver hosted services over the Internet. The term cloud computing was inspired by the cloud symbol that's often used to represent the Internet in flow charts and diagrams. The biggest advantage of cloud hosting is that it is elastic and not bound to traditional dedicated servers.
A cloud can be private or public. A public cloud sells services to anyone on the Internet. A private cloud is a dedicated environment that supplies hosted services to a single customer. Public or private, the goal of cloud computing is to provide easy, scalable access to computing resources and IT services.
In a public cloud servers are sold as Virtual Machines or virtual dedicated servers. Each virtual machine has its own allocation of processors, memory, and storage. It runs its own operation system and can be rebooted with affecting any other virtual machine. There are two major advantages of virtual machines over dedicated servers;
1) Additional resources can be added instantly without distrupting service.
2) Virtual Machines can automatically be moved to other resources upon a failure.
While virtual machines have their advantages there are applications that simply don't run well in a virtualized server environment. Large databases still run better on dedicated servers because they have complete access to the servers I/O resources. There also is a PCI compliance issue with cloud hosting. Therefore, Hybrid clouds are used to mix traditional dedicated servers with public clouds. More more information regarding hybrid clouds, go to Hybrid Clouds / Dedicated Servers.
For those customers that require higher envirnoment security or want total control over their cloud resources, there private clouds. Private clouds can be created using a group of dedicated servers (called nodes) and storage. This way the client has full control of the resources and there is added security since there are no share resources. More more information regarding private clouds, go to Virtual Private Data Centers.

"Your new cloud service is awesome. We were really worried about moving away from our dedicated servers but this is so much better. It looks and feels the same as before but when we needed to add memory and disk space to one of our VM's, BAM is was done. No downtime, no hassles. More importantly, we saved 40% on our monthly charges."

October 30, 2009 - InetServices Releases Private Cloud Services
Natick, Massachusetts - InetServices, the leading provider of affordable high performance dedicated servers and managed dedicated servers today announced the official release of InetServicesCloud Virtual Private Data Center. This is the second core offering in the InetServicesCloud portfolio after the recently release of Virtual Machine Hosting. The Virtual Private Data Center is ideal for SaaS (Software as a Service) providers, Web 2.0 companies, and enterprise application hosting that requires a higher level of security than a public cloud can offer.
InetServicesCloud Virtual Private Data Center is a private cloud built around dedicated equipment for a single customer. With this approach you get all the benefits of a public cloud; rapid provisioning, instant scalability, and automated recovery but with the extra security of a dedicated environment. Since none of the underlying physical infrastructure is shared with any other customer, there is no need to worry about the pool of resources for processing power, memory or storage. Customers can choose their private cloud to be based on either VMWare ESX or Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization technology and is a heterogeneous environment, supporting both Windows and Linux.
"Private clouds will change the way that medium and large businesses think about hosting." says Kevin Soendker, chief operating officer of InetServices. "Cloud technology itself breaks down the barriers of applications residing on a physical dedicated server. Using virtual machines instead of dedicated servers, these virtual servers can automatically be moved from physical server to physical server in the event of a failure. Along with the other benefit of instantly reallocating resources such as processor power, memory, or storage makes cloud computing the next evolution in hosting. The private cloud has all the same benefits of the public cloud but since all the equipment is dedicated to one customer there is that extra level of security at is required by financial, medical, and enterprise companies."
With InetServicesCloud Virtual Private Data Center you can choose from either two pre-configured private clouds or custom build a private cloud base on specific needs. The pre-configured private clouds consist of 4 nodes with 16 cores, 32GB memory, and 2TB iSCSI SAN storage or 4 nodes with 32 cores, 64GB memory, and 2TB iSCSI SAN storage. Furthermore, all private clouds can integrate with existing InetServices’ dedicated servers or managed dedicated servers providing a seamless hybrid environment.
